About
Danish violinist Amalie Kjældgaard (1993) began her academic studies in 2012 at the Royal Danish Academy of Music with prof. Serguei Azizian. She later moved to Vienna and studied at the University of Music and Performing Arts, where she ended up graduated with distinction from her magister studies in the special solo profile with prof. Christian Altenburger. She simultaneously did an advanced postgraduate soloist degree at the Royal Danish Academy of Music in Copenhagen with prof. Peter Herresthal, where she also worked as an assistant teacher.
Both during and since her studies she has enjoyed an extensive career in Copenhagen and Vienna, and is a regular player in many of the major orchestras in both cities as well as an integral part of the chamber music communities across Europe, where she has distinguished herself on the European stage through numerous festivals, academies, masterclasses and competitions.
She is a former academist of Chamber Orchestra of Europe, has worked as guest leader in orchestras in Denmark and Austria, and is a result of many years of inspiration and knowledge from some of the greatest musicians and ensembles in Europe, such as Spira Mirabilis, Danish Chamber Orchestra, Sonar Quartett, Athelas Sinfonietta, Phace Ensemble, Ensemble Intercontemporain, Danish National Symphony Orchestra, ORF Radio Symphony Orchestra Vienna etc.
Her musical passion lies in contemporary music and improvisation, and she is a co-founder and member of the Viennese group, Ensemble N, who regularly comission new music. She has worked closely with composers such as Michael Jarrell, Poul Ruders, Daniel Serrano, Mikel Urquiza, Konstantia Gourzi, Tomasz Skweres, Pelle Gudmundsen-Holmgreen, Nava Hemyari and Aron Ludwig.
Amalie is a 2021 recipient of the exclusive Léonie Sonning Talent Prize.
